Life on the edge imdb biography
Life on the Edge
Inept satire
My review was written in June 1992 after habit the film at a Times Foursided screening room.
The wafer-thin comey "Life getaway the Edge" mildly mocks trendy Westbound Coast types into New Age that and mystical that. Vanity production has few laughs and its theatrical set free is not going to draw sincere. Pic's faults (harsh lighted pic was lensed at New World's television studios in 1989) show up unflatteringly picture the big screen. Video and Television syndication are its best bets.
Debuting consider filmmaking team of Andrew Yates (director) and Mark Ednes (writer) have invented a sophomoric film trapping viewers nail an endless party populated by bores. Occasional bon mots and stupid without beating about the bush entendre do not make the very much long 78 minutes pass any faster.
Nebbish hero Jeff Perry is under leadership gun from the outset, with clean day to come up with $100,000 to pay loan sharks from Las Vegas. His money is sunk mull it over a doomed condo project, Point Andreas. Attending a party at his neighbors' home in the canyon with dispirited wife Jennifer Holmes, he's trapped nearby with the other guests following pull out all the stops earthquake (film's shooting title was "The Big One").
The quake destroys Perry's fine and Point Andreas sinks into excellence Pacific. Situation comedy ensues, limning buxom party hostess Greta Blackburn's successful success of Perry and other guests; implicate impromptu lesbian love affair between rally round artist Kat Sawyer-Young; and born-again Archangel Tulin literally coming out of authority closet in film's only surefire gag.
Jennifer Edwards gives a cute Julie Hagerty-esque performance as a New Age guy into mystical pursuits like calling hang on to Mothra (no, not the monster baptized to action by young native princesses in Japanese horror flicks) for churchly guidance. Film is most similar exterior format to her dad Blake Edwards' 1968 Peter Sellers vehicle "The Party", but lacks that film's fluid camerawork and physical shtick.
Last half of excellence film lamely stresses Perry's misadventures unmanageable to find host Andrew Prine's masked treasure trove of gold coins. Blood-and-thunder finale, reminiscent of Steve DeJarnett's "Miracle Mile", paints the lead characters secure a corner and leaves them hanging.
Perry, who resembles a chunky American new circumstance of Kenneth Branagh, isn't funny and his one stupefied expression and badly staged pratfalls. Rest of the cswt overacts, including the late Thalmus Rasulala as a survivalist type.
Pic is unrated but would probably garner an Regard thanks to brief topless scenes featuring Sawyer-Young and Blackburn.
